Description

The headstone, dating from around 1750, is dedicated to Gilbert Ridley and is located 1 metre south of the Church of St. Mungo in Simonburn. It is made of sandstone and stands 0.75 metre tall. The headstone features a segmental top with the inscription "Memento Mori." A sunk panel with raised scrolled sides displays an angel head and wings. Below this, the inscription reads: "Here lies the body of Gilbert Ridley," although the remainder of the text is illegible.
