Description
Simonburn Bridge is a single-track road bridge that crosses the Crook Burn. It was built in the mid-18th century and has some alterations from the 19th century. The bridge features sections made of 18th-century ashlar and 19th-century snecked stone, with both faces being identical. It has a tall, narrow round arch with set-back voussoirs. In the 19th century, the road level above the arch was raised to reduce the incline of the south approach. As a result, the original parapet with chamfered coping was rebuilt above an inserted section of snecked-stone walling, and the parapet has rebuilt splayed ends. At the north-west end of the parapet, there is a rectangular-plan pier topped with a low pyramidal cap.
