Description
The Tithe Barn is a building that likely served as a former tithe barn, which includes a ground-floor byre and has been converted into a house. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th century, possibly incorporating earlier masonry. The conversion into a house occurred around 1960. The structure is built of squared rubble with dressings and features a graduated stone-flagged roof and stone chimneys.
The barn stands three storeys high and has three bays, with tooled quoins. The entrance front showcases three segmental arches with roughly-squared voussoirs supported by square-plan piers. Renewed casements and a door have been inserted into the partly-infilled archways. An external stone stair on the left leads to a first-floor boarded door beneath a segmental relieving arch, with two rows of breathers above. The steeply-pitched roof has raised verges and reverse-stepped gables, with a corniced stack at the right end and a rebuilt stack at the left end.
On the right return, there are three casements set high in 20th-century openings. The left return features breathers and a 20th-century oriel window in front of a doorway with alternating jambs. Additionally, there is a first-floor loading bay at the rear. The building is included for its group value.
