Description
Garden Cottage and stables, located to the northwest of Shortflatt Tower, were originally the coach house and groom's cottage. They date from the early 19th century and early 20th century. The structure features dressed stone with tooled-and-margined ashlar dressings on the older sections, while the 20th-century part is made of brick. The roofs are covered with Welsh slate. The building consists of three ranges surrounding an open courtyard, with the older sections on the left and right connected by a 20th-century range at the rear. It is two storeys high.
On the left side is the Garden Cottage, which has three bays and features two segmental arches with boarded double doors. The other windows are renewed 9-pane sashes.
On the right side is the stable and coach house, which has six bays and includes high segmental-arched carriage doors in the third bay, various boarded doors, and one 12-pane Yorkshire sash window. There are small 8-pane Yorkshire sashes in the granary above. The older sections have gabled roofs with kneelers and corniced end stacks.
The linking range has three bays and features a central boarded door with a pitching door above in a half dormer, along with sash windows and a hipped roof.
