Description

Bolam Hall East Wing and West Wing are houses, now divided into two separate units, built in 1810. They were commissioned by Robert Horsley for his daughter, Charlotte Philadelphia, upon her marriage to John Beresford, the Baron Decies. The buildings are constructed of ashlar, with a Lakeland slate roof, and are in a classical style. They are two storeys high and feature a 5-bay by 5-bay layout.

The west wing has two steps leading to a central original half-glazed door within a pedimented surround featuring attached Tuscan columns. It has sash windows set within architraves, a moulded cornice, and a hipped roof with corniced ridge stacks. The east wing incorporates a pedimented door within the second bay, above which is a Venetian window. The ground floor has tripartite windows, and the upper floor has sash windows, all set within architraves.

The interior features good examples of early 19th-century detailing, including fireplaces constructed of wood and marble, six-panel doors, shutters, and moulded friezes. A staircase was not observed during the survey.
