Description
No. 1 Harnham is a house dating from the early 18th century, with a date inscribed as 1757. It is constructed of dressed stone and has a Welsh slate roof. The building features a lobby-entry plan and stands two storeys high with three bays.
The central entrance has an old boarded door set in a raised chamfered surround, with a lintel inscribed "RH 1757 ID." There is a 20th-century wooden porch added to the front. The house has sash windows, although the intermediate glazing bars have been removed, and these windows are set in raised stone surrounds. To the right of the door, there is a sundial dated 1805. The roof is steeply pitched, with kneelers and raised coping, and there are end stacks, one of which has been heightened in brick.
Inside, the property features two-panel doors, panelled reveals, and shutters. Below the stairs, there is a box bed cupboard with panelled doors, where the upper panels are shaped. All the panels display painted early 18th-century decoration, including designs of foliage, flowers, and birds in trees, and the base of the bed remains inside the cupboard.
