Description

The Old Cottage and Stables form two houses, now used as stores and a stable, dating to the late 18th century. They are built of roughly coursed rubble sandstone with quoins to the upper two-thirds, and have Welsh slate roofs with brick chimneys.

The cottage is two storeys high and four bays wide. There are paired boarded doors at the centre, with one blocked; a blocked rectangular overlight sits above the left-hand door, both beneath stone lintels. Late 19th-century sash windows are set within wide boxes, and have projecting stone sills and wide stone lintels. Wrought iron gutter brackets are present, with one section of wooden gutter; the returns feature large, irregular blocks forming low gable parapets. Two truncated brick chimneys are at each end.

The single-storey stable is three bays wide. It has a boarded door to the right, under a wooden lintel, alongside two ventilation slits. A square brick chimney sits on the ridge towards the right end. A loft and stable are attached to the right, with a gable to the street containing a large square window. The right return has a boarded door and overlight, and a wide window with glazing bars set within a wooden section inserted into a former cart entrance. A truncated brick chimney is also located here.
