Description

This is a finger post from the late 19th century to early 20th century, manufactured by Smith, Patterson & Co in Blaydon. It features a cast-iron cylindrical design with three fingers and a triangular finial. The fingers have chamfered corners and display black raised lettering. One finger points southwest, indicating Shire Moor ½ mile, Benton 3 ½ miles, and Newcastle 7 ¼ miles. The second finger points northeast, listing Earsden ½ mile, Hartley 3 miles, and Blyth 7 miles. The third finger points south, showing directions to New York 1½ miles and North Shields 3 ¾ miles.
