Description
The structure is an oven located south of the Garth, possibly dating from the 17th century. It is built from large sandstone rubble with quoins and consists of one storey and one bay, forming a square shape. The west elevation features a low entrance with a chamfered flat Tudor-arched head and alternate-block jambs. The left side has a square opening with a wooden lintel, while the rear includes a high small square opening. Inside, the oven is round with a stone domed roof. There is a one-metre deep entrance passage that has a flue-like recess on the right side, and a rear blocked opening at ground level with a fluted cast iron pipe set in a chamfered stone surround. Attached to the oven is a tall wall that runs northward from the northeast corner, made of small stones with a rounded top. This oven is listed for its group value with the Garth.
