Description
The Laundry Cottages are stables and a coach house that have been converted into estate cottages, dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of ashlar and rendered stone, topped with a slate roof featuring pedimental gable ends and brick axial stacks. The building has a U-shaped plan with flanking wings surrounding a central yard and is designed in a Neo-Classical style.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a symmetrical arrangement of windows on the west front, with a 2:2:2 pattern. The projecting flanking wings each have two bays, pedimental gables, and giant corner pilasters. The ground floor has 12-pane sash windows, while the first floor has smaller 9-pane sashes. Similar sashes are found in the left and right returns. The central range includes three-light casements on the first floor with glazing bars and cambered arches, smaller two-light casements on the ground floor, and plank doors replacing the original coach house doors. The interior has not been inspected, but the building is noted as a good example of a small early 19th-century Neo-Classical style range of stables.
