Description
Belmont House and Racquets Court is a small country house built in the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building features rendered brick and stone with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof that is topped with a moulded cornice and blocking course. It stands two storeys high and has a façade with three groups of three bays, where the central three bays are slightly advanced. The windows are glazing bar sash types, with nine panes over twelve on the ground floor. The ground floor windows in the central section are large pane windows from the late 19th or early 20th century, set under fanlights and within round-headed moulded surrounds that include imposts and keystones. These windows are positioned between Tuscan columns in antis, topped with a plain entablature and cornice. The central entrance features a panelled door.
On the south-east elevation, there are seven bays, with the outer two bays advanced and featuring tripartite windows and projecting square bay windows. The central five windows are separated by pilasters, and there is a central door beneath a flat hood supported by brackets. Inside the house, there is a late 19th-century private racquets court, which is supported by cast-iron roof trusses.
