1/57 The Grove 16-1-67 G.V. II

Small country house. Late C18. Rendered brick. Hipped slate roof with central large stack. 2 storeys plus basement. 3 bays with 1st and 2nd floor and eaves bands, flanked by single bay outshuts of single storey plus basement, with let floor bands and shaped ashlar coped parapets each with single finial at the outer edge. The basement has a central arch giving access to the recessed + glazed door with fanlight over. Flanking the arch are single flights of a perron and single glazing bar sashes. The perron, with iron railings, leads to the central pedimented doorway with double + glazed door and traceried fanlight over. Single fluted columns support the open modillion pediment. Flanking the doorway are large C19 single tripartite glazing bar sashes, these replace bay windows. Above, a central segmental headed glazing bar sash flanked by single Diocletian windows with glazing bar sashes,separating the central 3 bays and the slightly recessed outshuts are single giant pillasters. Each outshut has on the upper floor a single glazing bar sash, that to the east has large panes. The basement probably once had loggias. To the west is a 2 storey 2 bay later C19 extension, rendered with hipped roof and rendered stack to the rear. To the rear and east are later C19 additions.
