Description

The Academy is an 18th-century house with 19th-century extensions and alterations. It is constructed of colourwashed brick with ashlar dressings, and has a pantile roof with coped gables, kneelers, a single gable stack to the south, and two ridge stacks. The house is two storeys high, with irregular and varied window placement. There are ten windows to the ground floor and eight to the first floor. A projecting three-window, splayed bay with a parapet runs through both storeys, and a smaller two-window projecting bay is located on the ground floor only. All windows have glazing bars; hood moulds are present over three ground-floor windows and seven first-floor windows. A double half-glazed door, alongside twelve windows, are topped with segmental arches featuring small keystones. String courses define the bays and are situated above the door, while dogtooth decoration is visible at the eaves. A single-storey extension is present to the south, with further 19th-century extensions extending to the rear.
