Description

Dial House is a house dating from the late 18th century with 20th-century additions, situated on the west side of Gainsborough Road in Winthorpe. The house is built of red brick and has a hipped pantile roof with three brick stacks. It is two storeys high, although the first floor is a 20th-century addition, and consists of three bays. A continuous eaves band of single brick headers and stretches runs along the roofline, with an intercalated row of dogtooth detailing. The central bay slightly projects and features a pediment. Within the pedimented bay is a central doorway with a plain surround, flanked by single, flat-headed glazing bar casements. All windows are topped with segmental relieving arches featuring ashlar imposts and keystones. The first floor has two glazing bar casements. The open pediment has a single band of header bricks and dogtooth to the cornice, and an ashlar sundial is positioned under the apex. The two outer bays each have a single glazing bar casement to both storeys. A later brick lean-to has been added to the rear of the building.
