Description
The stable block at Winthorpe House, dating from the late 18th century, is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings. It features a hipped slate roof adorned with a wooden modillion cornice and is set on a brick plinth. The building has three main bays, plus single bay outer projecting wings, and is 1½ storeys high.
The central bay contains a pair of doorways, each with a segmental arch and keystone, leading to double doors. These doorways are flanked by brick pilasters that support an ashlar arch with a floral-decorated keystone, topped by an open modillion pediment. The bays on either side each have a doorway with a traceried fanlight.
On the eastern side, there is a dormer with a glazing bar sash that breaks into the eaves, while to the west, there is a fixed light with remnants of tracery. The west projecting wing includes a 20th-century garage door in its east wall and an arched glazing bar sash in the north wall, with alterations to the positions of the door and window. The east wing features a doorway with a traceried fanlight in its west wall, above which is a dormer with a glazing bar sash that also breaks into the eaves. The north wall of this wing has a small casement window alongside a blocked arched window. This building is included for its group value only.
