Description

Lowwood is a house dating from 1787. It is constructed of red brick with a hipped tiled roof and two brick stacks. The house has a modillion cornice and a floor band. The symmetrical facade has four windows to each of the two storeys, with a central doorway. A slightly projecting two-window central bay is distinguished by alternate red and white brick headers. The panelled front door, with a plain surround, has a plaque above stating that the first stone was laid by Roger Pocklington jun and his sister Elizabeth on June 25th 1787, when they were 11 and 10 years old respectively. All windows are glazing bar sashes contained within flat-headed openings with segmental relieving arches. A later traceried wooden porch with a tiled roof extends along the length of the projecting bay. A two-storey, two-bay brick wing extends to the rear. The projecting bay originally had a pediment.
