Description
No. 40 Park Road is a bungalow built in 1936 by M.P. Reavell for the Fountains Abbey Settlers Society. The building is constructed of brick, which is rendered and whitewashed, and features a red tile roof. It has an L-plan layout with three bays. The central entrance has a renewed half-glazed door, flanked by paired 12-pane sash windows on the left. The projecting right bay includes a 12-pane sash window beneath a gable with plain bargeboards. There is a ridge stack on each part of the roof.
At the left end, there is a flat-roofed porch that has a 9-pane shorter sash window in the position of a former doorway, with the door now relocated to the left return. The left side of the house features a 9-pane shorter sash window and a gable with plain bargeboards, while the right side has two 12-pane sashes and a similar gable. All windows are equipped with tile sills.
This bungalow is listed for its historical interest as one of the few relatively unaltered houses from the 1930s Swarland settlement.
