Description
28 Park Road is a cottage built in 1936 by M.P. Reavell for the Fountains Abbey Settlers Society. The building is constructed of brick, rendered and whitewashed, and features a late 20th-century concrete tile roof that replaced the original shingles. It has one storey plus attics and is symmetrical with two bays. The cottage has a plinth and a central renewed door with a raised panel. There are 12-pane sash windows and gabled attic dormers with 8-pane sashes and cusped bargeboards. The end stacks are present, and the left return has a projecting stepped stack with a 12-pane sash window and an attic 8-pane sash window to the right, along with plain bargeboards. The right return is similar but has only the attic window. The rear elevation features a central doorway with paired 9-pane shorter sashes to the left. All windows have tile sills. This cottage is listed for its historical interest as one of the few relatively unaltered houses from the 1930s Swarland settlement.
