Description
The Plenmeller War Memorial Cairn is located at an elevation of 300 meters, approximately 1,850 meters south-west of Penpeugh and 2,400 meters due east of Plenmeller Road. It is a carefully constructed dry-stone cairn, standing about 2 meters tall, situated on a stone outcrop that overlooks former open-cast coal workings to the south.
A metal plaque affixed to a concrete base in front of the memorial bears the inscription: "WAR MEMORIAL CAIRN/ ERECTED BY/ TYNEDALE SHEPHERDS/ IN MEMORY OF ALL WHO DIED IN/ THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918."
