School, dated 1846 on rear wing. Roughly-squared stone with ashlar quoins and dressings; roof of large blue slates. Tudor-Gothic style. South elevation 6 bays, single-storeyed except for 2-storey porch in 3rd bay. Moulded plinth, stepped buttresses. Projecting porch with diagonal buttresses and 1st floor string; renewed glazed door in moulded 4-centred arch with hoodmould, beneath canted oriel with 2-light window and brattished cornice, and tablet with monogram of Earl of Carlisle under coped gable with moulded kneelers and finial. Main part has 2-light windows in moulded surrounds holding small-paned casements. Coped gables with moulded kneelers and finials; taller cross- gabled roof of porch has ridge stack with 2 diagonal and 1 square-set shafts. Returns each show 4-light transomed window, with pointed window in gable above. Rear elevation shows outshut on left and parallel 2-storey wing on right, with datestone on its left return and right end stack with twin diagonally-set shafts and moulded cornice.
