Description
The Blacksmiths' and Joiners' shops, built in 1894 and extended to the south in 1908, are located to the west of the pit head at Ashington Woodhorn Colliery. Constructed from yellow Ashington brick and topped with a Welsh slate roof, the east elevation features one storey and consists of 16 bays. It includes four large round-arched openings, two segmental-headed doorways, and a pair of boarded doors set under a timber lintel, along with round-arched windows, some of which have metal-framed casements. The rear has similar windows, some of which are partly blocked, and a banded lateral stack. Inside, there is a transverse wall with an elliptical arch between the workshops at the north end, and the northern workshop contains a corner hearth with a stepped brick hood.
