Description
The National Coal Board Workshops, specifically the coal face machinery and electrical overhaul shops, were built around 1882 for the Lambton Colliery Company. The structure is made of painted brick and features a Welsh slate roof. It stands two stories tall and consists of eight bays. The workshops have gauged round brick arches and stone sills for the fixed windows, which include glazing bars and pivoted panels. There is an original vehicle door located in the fourth bay and a sliding door in the sixth bay, with the openings set in brick panels. The building is adorned with dog-tooth eaves ornament and has a hipped roof. Additionally, there is a six-bay stores extension that matches the original style, as well as a ten-bay blacksmith's shop extension made of brick and timber with an asbestos roof. A pit-cage access door is located under the gable in the second bay.
