Description
The National Coal Board Workshops, specifically the welding bay and fabrication block, were built in 1919 for the Lambton Colliery Company and have undergone some alterations. The structure is L-shaped and constructed from brick with stone dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It has one high storey featuring two windows on the north elevation, four on the right return, and four on the west wing. The north elevation includes a large round-headed brick arch situated between two square modern casements. The right return has later square casements positioned under round gauged brick arches with keystones. The west wing has similar windows, all featuring stone projecting cills. The building also has dentilled brick eaves and a large square chimney on the wing. It is included in the listing for group value considerations.
