Description
The National Coal Board Workshops, specifically the winding and cable repair shops, were built around 1882 for the Lambton Colliery Company. The structure is made of painted brick and features a Welsh slate roof with flat stone gable coping, curved kneelers, and two corniced ridge chimneys, one located at the north end. The building has one high storey and consists of three windows arranged in two sections, with 12 and 5 panes.
On the north elevation, there are three brick panels that include a modern door and two wide, round-headed windows with metal glazing bars, all set under gauged brick arches that have impost blocks and keystones. The windows have projecting cills, as does the upper row of three similar windows. Additionally, there is a keyed ox-eye window in a brick panel at the peak of the gable. The ground floor features a canted corner on the right, with the first floor corbelled out above it.
