Description
The Cage Shop, built around 1900, is located to the west of the pit-head at Ashington Woodhorn Colliery. It is constructed from yellow Ashington brick and features gauged arches above the doors and windows, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The south elevation is a single storey with three bays, which are defined by pilasters that extend through a stepped and cogged architrave to a stepped and cogged eaves cornice. The round-arched windows have radial heads, with two featuring metal-framed casements; the window on the right is blocked. The returns of the building display pedimented gables, and the right return includes a tall vehicle entrance with boarded double doors set under a round arch. The rear of the building has similar window features.
