Description

The Cage, or lock up, is a small, one-storey structure built around 1840. It is made of red brick and features a lean-to design with a flagstone ceiling. The entrance has a plank door that is studded with large nails. Inside, there is a brick-built seat along the walls. The building was used for its original purpose until around 1875, when it was repurposed as an ammunition store for the 12th Essex Volunteer Rifles.
