Description

This is a milepost located on the east side of the road, likely from the early 20th century, made by Smith Paterson Ltd of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and painted in white and black. The milepost features a shield-shaped plaque that displays the distances to Whitley Chapel (2½ miles) and Hexham (3 miles), set on a circular shaft. The overall height of the milepost is 0.5 metres.
