Description
Black Hall Cottage is a house dated 1725, featuring the initials J.T. on the lintel. It has a later 18th-century outshut and was front refenestrated in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with cut quoins and dressings, topped with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The central door, which has been renewed, is set in an old chamfered surround and features a dated lintel. This door is flanked by renewed 16-pane sash windows. Above the door, there is a renewed 12-pane sash window, flanked by plate-glass sashes. All windows have tooled lintels and splayed sills. The cottage has coped gables with moulded kneelers and old brick end stacks on stone bases. The right side of the building shows a segmental relieving arch with a lozenge-shaped window to the right, and two chamfered lights in the attic; similar attic windows are present on the left side.
Inside, there is a large kitchen fireplace with a chamfered surround and two arched ovens at the rear, while the parlour fireplace is plainer and likely dates from the late 18th century. The interior also features a panelled central staircase and two-panel doors.
