Description
Black Hall is a house dated 1714, featuring the initials J.F. on its sundial. The north-east wing was added in the mid-19th century, and the south and east elevations were remodeled in 1930. The building is constructed from rubble with cut quoins and dressings, topped with a slate roof.
The south front has two storeys and five bays. The left two bays contain 16-pane sash windows with slightly projecting sills, and a re-set sundial is positioned between the upper windows. The fourth bay features a part-glazed door set in a stop-chamfered surround beneath a moulded cornice, with a window above and flanking two-storey bows added in 1930. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers, and there are stepped and corniced end stacks as well as two ridge stacks.
The right return displays late 19th-century four-pane sash windows and another 1930 bow on the right. The rear elevation includes a wing with a nine-pane sash stair window featuring Gothick glazing, set under a round-headed arch with moulded imposts and a keystone. Above, the coped gable has moulded kneelers with finials. A lower 20th-century extension to the right has a re-set doorway on the left return, which features wave-and hollow-chamfer mouldings.
