Description
This is a bridge and gateway built in the 18th century, located approximately 750 yards west of Belsay Castle. The structure is made of dressed stone and ashlar. The bridge features a small single segmental arch and has a low chamfered parapet that widens at the west end. Behind the bridge, the gateway's screen walls splay outward and create a rectangular enclosure in front of the gate. The walls are about 4 feet high and have flat coping. The gateway is flanked by square gate piers topped with pyramidal caps.
