Description
The courtyard wall east and north of Belsay Castle dates from the 18th century or early 19th century and is constructed of dressed stone. It has an L-plan layout. Attached to the north-east corner of the castle is a short section of castellated wall approximately 12 feet high, featuring a pointed-arched doorway with a continuous roll-moulded surround. The door includes Y-tracery panels.
To the right, there is a wall of similar style that stands around 10 feet high and extends about 60 yards in length. In the center, there is a segmental carriage arch supported by square corniced piers, above which the castellation rises with the arch.
