Description
Woodhouse is a former coaching inn, now a house, built in 1836 for Sir Charles Monck. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with tooled-and-margined dressings and has a Welsh slate roof, featuring a double-span design and two storeys.
The east front has a chamfered plinth and roll-moulded corners, with five bays that include 4-pane sash windows in chamfered surrounds, and similar 2-light windows in the left bay. There is a plain frieze, and the building has two pedimented gable ends with a blocking course. The ends and ridge have tripartite corniced stacks.
On the right side, there is a round-headed doorway with a panelled door and a fanlight, all set in a raised roll-moulded surround. Above this doorway is a similar surround that is now blocked, except for a lunette at the top.
Inside, the building features early 19th-century details, including a staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail, six-panel doors and shutters, and stone fireplaces with roll-moulded edges.
