Description
This cottage, dating from the 17th century, is located approximately 50 yards north of West Heddon Farmhouse in Heddon-on-the-Wall. It features a dressed stone facade with random rubble on other sides and has a roof made of pantiles and stone slates. The building is two storeys high and consists of two bays. On the left side, there is an old boarded door set in a chamfered Tudor-arched surround with a hoodmould. The windows have double-chamfered surrounds and hoodmoulds, with remnants of mullions still visible. The roof is steeply pitched and gabled, with reverse-stepped gables.
Inside, there is a pair of upper crucks along with old beams, rafters, and purlins. At the time of the survey, the cottage was empty and in poor repair.
