Description
The Old Schoolhouse is a house dating from around 1800, constructed from ashlar stone and topped with a Lakeland slate roof. It has two storeys and features five bays. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with a six-pane overlight, all set in a raised surround. The ground floor has 24-pane sash windows, while the upper floor has 12-pane sash windows, all also within raised surrounds. The building has a gabled roof with flat coping and banded stacks at both ends and along the ridge. Inside, there are six-panel doors and shutters, with a date of 1814 noted above one internal door. The building was converted into a school in 1824, funded by Mrs. Bewick of Close House.
