Description

This is a cottage with origins in the 17th century, located on the north side of East Street in West Coker. It is built of local stone rubble with dressings in Ham stone, and has a double Roman clay tile roof with coped gables. The chimney stacks are built of brick. The cottage is two storeys high and has a three-bay facade with an irregular arrangement of windows. The windows are hollow-chamfered mullioned, with inserted casements, mostly featuring three lights; some of these windows may have been imported. An oval window is on the ground floor to the left of the first bay, and a 20th-century glazed door is positioned between bays one and two, set within a moulded cambered arched doorway with a label above. A single-storey extension from the 20th century projects to the east. The interior has not been inspected. A 20th-century garage extension on the west side of the rear is not included in the listing. An integral feature of the street scene is the roadside boundary wall, approximately 3 metres south of the house. This wall is constructed of random rubble and is 1.75 metres high, rising to 2.5 metres towards the east.
