Description
New Barns Farmhouse is a mid-19th century house with an attached outbuilding. It is constructed from coursed rubble with tooled quoins and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring two stacks that have been rebuilt in brick on their original bases. The building has a square villa plan and a single-storey outbuilding range to the north-east.
The south elevation is two storeys high and consists of three symmetrical bays. It has a chamfered plinth and a chamfered band at the first floor. The central entrance features an old half-glazed door flanked by renewed 12-pane sash windows, with 4-pane sashes located above. All openings are framed with alternating-block surrounds, and the windows have slightly projecting sills. The hipped roof has a ridge stack located to the right of centre, which has also been rebuilt on its old base.
The left return has two bays, with 12-pane sashes, where the right bay has been renewed. It features a stepped and corniced ridge stack. The right return has renewed 12-pane sashes on the first floor and a single-storey outbuilding that is set forward on the right, which includes a boarded door and a 4-pane sash window in its left return.
The rear elevation displays 12-pane sashes and an inserted door. The projecting outbuilding range on the left has a blocked doorway with a small casement window inserted, along with a boarded door and three small windows.
Inside, the farmhouse features four-panel doors and a staircase with stick balusters.
