Description

Old Barns Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1800, with a mid-19th century porch and a later rear wing. It is constructed of squared stone, with the rear wing featuring tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings. The roof is covered in Welsh slate, and the stacks have been rebuilt using yellow brick.

The south elevation has two storeys and three bays. The centre has a blind doorway with a blind window above it. The end bays have 12-pane sash windows, with the exception of a tripartite stone-mullioned window on the ground floor to the left. The gables have pitched coping, and the end stacks have been rebuilt on their original bases.

The left return shows a 12-pane sash window on the ground floor and a central first-floor doorway that has been blocked, with a 12-pane sash window inserted in its place. The left rear wing includes a boarded door, a 6-pane casement window, and a first-floor 4-pane sash window. It has a chamfered eaves cornice and a coped gable at the left end.

The right return features a central projecting porch with a flush-panelled door within a chamfered surround, accessed from the left return. An inserted 8-pane casement window and a band are visible below a coped parapet on the end wall. A 16-pane fixed light window is set in a chamfered surround. To the left of the porch is a 12-pane sash window, and above the porch is a round-arched stair window containing a 12-pane sash with an intersecting head.

The rear elevation incorporates 12-pane sashes, some with external bars. The right projecting wing has renewed casements in chamfered openings on its inner return.
