Description

Number 1 and the attached outbuilding are a house and outbuilding from the 18th century located in Kington. The building features coursed rubble on the ground floor and roughcast above, topped with a steep-pitched hipped Welsh slate roof. It has a brick ridge stack and a brick cross-axial stack at the front. The structure is two storeys high with an attic and cellar, and it has a four-window range with 8/8 sash windows in broad moulded cases, along with a similar but damaged sash in the central gable.

The central entrance consists of an 18th-century part-glazed six-panel door set in a simple case beneath a stone flat arch. To the right of the entrance, there is an 8-pane light and a 6/6 sash window, both in broad moulded cases under a continuous stone flat arch. To the left, there are two similar sashes under flat arches, with a moulded wood band above.

On the right side of the building, there is a 19th-century part-glazed four-panel door in an altered opening under a stone segmental arch, continuing the band from the front. The right side is made of rubble and features an early 20th-century tripartite window with a combination of 1/1, 2/2, and 1/1 sashes above paired plain sashes in a moulded case. The eaves are adorned with wood modillions, and there is a roof dormer with a four-pane light and moulded eaves.

To the left, possibly a former malthouse, there is a six-pane light in a moulded case and an altered 6/6 light, flanking a stable door in a broad moulded case. The double stable doors are flanked by six-pane lights in pegged oak cases, with evidence of timber-framing present.
