Description
The Terrace and attached gates and railings are a group of houses located in Kington, dating from the mid-18th century. The buildings are constructed of stucco, with No. 8 featuring roughcast, and have a Welsh slate roof on the right, a turnerized roof in the center, and graduated slates on the left. They stand three storeys high and form a seven-window range, featuring 8/8 sash windows with some old glass, and 4/8 sashes above. The windows on the right side of No. 8 are set within rendered architraves with sillbands, and the buildings have bracketed eaves.
The central entrance to No. 9 has 19th-century panelled double doors and an ornate margin-glazed fanlight, all under an open pediment with a moulded wood hood supported by spiral-fluted Doric pilasters. To the right of this entrance are three 8/8 sashes, while to the left are two 8/8 sashes along with a 19th-century six-panel door and margin-glazed overlight, featuring moulded reveals and fluted architraves, under a moulded wood flat hood on scrolled brackets.
On the right return side, there are two 8/8 sashes with a 4/8 sash above, all with rendered architraves and sillbands, and bracketed eaves. The central late 19th-century part-glazed panelled door has a margin-glazed overlight, set in a moulded case under a wood flat hood with a panelled soffit on brackets. There is a coursed rubble wing to the right, which includes three 6/6 sashes under ashlar flat arches, along with two 4/8 sashes and a blocked opening above.
At the rear, there is a carriageway under a concrete lintel, with a blocked opening and a 20th-century light under ashlar flat arches. The attached area features 19th-century cast-iron railings and gate piers, with lattice-work piers and acorn finials, all set on rubble dwarf walls that enclose steps and the area.
