Description
The farm buildings to the west of Whittonstall Hall Farmhouse were constructed in the early 19th century and are designed in a planned layout. They are built from coursed rubble and feature tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings, topped with Welsh slate roofs that have red moulded ridge tiles. The buildings form ranges on the south and west sides of a rectangular yard, which has largely been filled with 20th-century sheds.
The south range consists of two storeys and four bays, with two boarded doors and part-slatted windows. The west range is also two storeys but has seven bays with an irregular arrangement. It includes segmental-headed arches that are partially blocked in bays two, six, and seven, along with boarded doors and part-slatted windows on the first floor. All openings are framed with alternating-block surrounds.
The rear elevation of the buildings is similar to the front. The gingang, or covered yard, features four piers and a conical roof. The roof structure includes a central post with radial struts, curved purlins, and closely spaced rafters. There is also a single-storey section to the north of the north range, along with various 20th-century sheds and outbuildings that are not of interest.
