Description

The farm buildings west of Dilston Haugh Farmhouse are early 19th-century structures that incorporate an 18th-century barn in the west range, with later 19th-century cowsheds at the back of the north range. They are built of rubble with cut quoins and dressings, featuring cast-iron columns in the cowshed and roofs made of Welsh slate. The buildings are arranged around a rectangular yard that is partly open to the east, with an attached mill at the rear of the west range.

The south range is a single storey with nine bays and is adjacent to the farmhouse on the left. It has three boarded doors set in alternating-block surrounds and boarded double doors at the far left, along with part-slatted windows. The west range is two storeys with six bays, featuring boarded doors and a segmental-arched cart entrance in 18th-century chamfered surrounds, some 19th-century windows, and two tiers of slit vents, most of which are blocked. The north range is also two storeys with eight bays, displaying segmental arches, some blocked except for a wagon entrance with a timber lintel and part-slatted windows. The east range is two storeys with three bays, featuring a boarded door flanked by blocked windows and a part-slatted window above. The two-storey ranges have hipped roofs.

The rear elevation of the west range reveals a projecting gabled mill, complete with an external stone stair leading to a loft door in an alternating-block surround. The right return has a boarded door in a similar surround and a low opening to the former wheelpit, while the left return shows a part-slatted window and a later window in a rebated opening to the wheelpit. The rear elevation of the north range features an external stone stair leading to a boarded door in an alternating-block surround and part-slatted windows; to the right is the attached cowshed, with opposed seven-bay sheds that have columns shaped to accommodate boarding in front of and between stalls, set on a chamfered plinth, and topped with pent roofs. A tall coped wall runs along the roadside at the rear of the north part, with an attached contemporary outbuilding featuring a hipped roof to the northwest.

The rear elevation of the east range includes boarded double doors under a segmental arch, while the left return has a first-floor sash window in an old chamfered surround.
