Description
Dilston Haugh Farmhouse is a house that dates from the early 18th century and was extended and remodeled around 1830. The 18th-century section is built of coursed rubble with roughly-shaped quoins and is partly rendered, while the 19th-century parts are made of squared stone with cut quoins and tooled dressings, all under Welsh slate roofs. The farmhouse features an 18th-century south range, a 19th-century parallel rear range, and a northeast wing.
The east elevation, which is the 19th-century front, has two storeys and four bays. The left bays, which have a gable above, are the end of the 18th-century house. In the third bay, there is a renewed door with a patterned overlight; to the left is a 12-pane sash window and a trompe l'oeil window, while to the right is a later 19th-century canted bay window with 8- and 12-pane sashes and a pyramidal roof. The first floor has three 12-pane sashes and one trompe l'oeil window, with all openings (except the bay window) framed in raised stone surrounds. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers and support stepped-and-corniced stacks.
The left return, which is the 18th-century front, has a four-bay rendered façade that shows similar window arrangements. The right return features a first-floor trompe l'oeil window in the gable end of the wing and a flush-panelled door with an overlight in the rear range, set back to the right. The twin-gabled rear elevation has a blocked attic window, which was probably originally mullioned, located in the early 18th-century part to the right.
