Description

The main group of farm buildings and walls located to the northeast of High Staward Farmhouse dates from the early 19th century. Constructed from rubble with cut quoins and dressings, the buildings feature hipped slate roofs and are arranged on three sides of a rectangular farmyard. At the rear, there is a gabled cartshed with an asbestos roof and a threshing barn that includes an attached gingang with a conical roof. The farmyard is accessed through two pairs of segmental-headed arches, and the first floor of the ranges has pitching doors with chamfered surrounds, along with various part-glazed and part-slatted windows. The gingang retains its large central revolving post and drive shaft for the threshing machine, which is still present in the adjacent barn. The roof structure of the gingang includes curving purlins. Stone walls enclose and divide the farmyard.
