Description

GLANTON THE CAUSEWAY NU 0714 (South- side) Glanton Village 21/195 Stable range and attached wall to west of Whickham House GV II

Stable range and attached wall, probably early C19. Roughly-squared stone with cut dressings, except for north end tooled-and-margined stone; Welsh slate roof. East elevation 2 storeys, 4 irregular bays. Boarded door with part-slatted window to left and 4-pane sash to right; and far left inserted C20 garage door. 2 small slatted windows beneath eaves. Coped gables; left end stack with chamfered cap; right end moulded finial.

Left return, to garden, shows boarded door and 2 square-headed recesses in gable, each with 2 arched pigeon holes. Right return, to road, shows boarded double doors under elliptical arch, with pitching eye above.

At south-east corner, tall wall with flat coping and boarded door links to north-west corner of Whickham House (q.v.).

C20 outbuilding with metal roof on north side of wall, and pent outhouse to south of stable range, are not of special interest.
