Description

Town Farmhouse is a house from the mid-18th century that was altered in the early 19th century. It is built of squared stone with cut dressings and has a Scottish slate roof with a rendered stack on the left end. The house has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high with three slightly irregular bays. The right-of-centre entrance features a fielded-panel door with an overlight above it. The windows are 4-pane sash types, and all openings are framed in raised stone surrounds with narrow chamfers. Between the upper left windows, there is a brass plaque from the Phoenix Insurance Company. The eaves cornice is moulded and supported by large moulded corbels, and the gables have pitched coping. The end stacks include one on the right with a quadripartite chamfered shaft and moulded cornice, while the left stack has been rebuilt on an old base. The left side of the house shows a similar 4-pane sash window on the ground floor, and the right side has a boarded attic window in a stone surround.

Inside, the house features six-panel doors, except for an older fielded-panel door on the understair cupboard, and has panelled shutters. The open-well staircase includes two stick balusters per tread, square newels, and a moulded handrail.

There is a mid-19th century wing at the rear left that has been altered and is not of special interest.
