Description

The stable range located north-east of Netherwitton Hall dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed of squared stone with dressings and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of ten bays.

The left section has five bays and was originally symmetrical. It features central double doors set under a flattened Tudor arch within a square moulded frame, with a raised roundel above that encloses a blank shield. To the right of the doors is a mounting block. This bay includes a stable door with a four-pane overlight, while bay five has a boarded door with an eight-pane overlight, both of which are enlargements of original windows.

The right section, which is slightly later, also has five bays. It contains double doors in a matching surround in bay nine, and a similar doorway at first floor level in bay eight, which is now blocked. Bay seven has a stable door with a four-pane overlight, and bay ten has another stable door, both of which are enlargements of original windows.

Both sections feature windows of various types within raised and chamfered stone surrounds, with some windows blocked. The left return displays a first-floor boarded door in a flat-pointed chamfered surround, while the right return has two chamfered windows in the attic. The rear elevation of the right section shows four square first-floor windows in chamfered surrounds, one of which has been enlarged into a doorway.
