Description
Coachman's House and adjacent buildings north of Netherwitton Hall consist of a coachman's house, coach-house, and cottages. The house and adjacent cottage date from the late 17th century, while the second cottage is dated 1786, featuring the initials W T (Walter Trevelyan) on its lintel. The coach-house is from the 19th century. The house and cottages are built from squared stone with dressings, while the coach-house is made of tooled stone with tooled-and-margined dressings, all topped with slate roofs.
The coach-house, located at the south end of the range, has an arcade of three segmental-headed arches and a hipped roof. The house is two storeys high with three narrow bays, presenting a symmetrical facade. It features a central boarded door with a 10-pane overlight, flanked by 16-pane sash windows, and 12-pane sashes on the first floor, all set within architraves. The gables are coped, and there are stepped end stacks.
The cottage to the right is one storey plus an attic, with three bays. It has a central boarded door flanked by 12-pane sashes in square openings, all with architraves. Above the right sash, there is a 19th-century dormer with a casement window and shaped, pierced bargeboards. The right end stack is stepped.
The second cottage, located farthest to the right, is two low storeys with three bays. It features a boarded door with a 4-pane overlight in the first bay, a 16-pane sash to the right, and a barred window. The first floor has a central altered Yorkshire sash flanked by blocked windows, with a coped gable to the right. The right return includes an external stone stair leading to a boarded door in a chamfered surround, along with a projecting right part that has a similar door and a 6-pane casement window.
