Description

The south part of the west farmbuilding range at Healey is a barn, pigsty/henhouse, and gingang, dating from the early 19th century, with the gingang added in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of squared rubble with tooled-and-margined quoins, except for the rock-faced gingang, and features Welsh slate roofs. The barn, which includes the gingang on its west side, is accompanied by the pigsty/henhouse to the south.

On the east elevation, the barn is partly obscured by a 20th-century covered yard. It has a doorway surrounded by a chamfered alternating-block surround, with a slit vent to the left and a part-slatted window to the right. The lower pigsty/henhouse to the left has a pent extension created by roofing over twin exercise yards, featuring two boarded doors. The original sty entrances have monolith segmental-arched lintels, and there is a part-slatted window above. The gables are coped. The left return features an external stone stair leading to a boarded door in a chamfered alternating-block surround.

On the west elevation, the barn displays a boarded door in a chamfered alternating-block surround and a slit vent to the right of the circular gingang, which has five double-stepped piers and a conical roof. The pigsty/henhouse to the right includes a henhole above a chamfered stone shelf.

Inside, the gingang features a massive cross beam supported by larger north and south piers. Its separate roof structure has radial tie beams connecting to a central post, with struts to the principals and two levels of curved purlins. The henhouse above the pigsty is lined with stone nesting boxes.
