Description
Pauperhaugh Post Office, along with the adjacent old smithy, consists of a cottage and smithy. The cottage likely dates from the early 18th century and was remodeled in the mid-19th century, while the smithy probably dates from the mid-19th century as well. The buildings are constructed from rubble with cut dressings and feature a Welsh slate roof.
The cottage is a single storey with an attic and has two bays, while the slightly lower smithy has three bays to the right. The cottage has a central boarded door situated between two 16-pane casement windows, with an earlier blocked window located below the eaves on the right side. It features coped gables and a ridge stack. The left side of the cottage displays a 16-pane casement window and a renewed attic window. The smithy has a boarded door on the right and windows fitted with blacksmith's glazing, along with a coped gable on the right. The right side of the smithy shows a boarded window. All openings are framed with chamfered alternating-block surrounds.
The interior has not been seen.
