Description
The farm buildings to the north of Fowberry Mains Farmhouse date from the early 19th century. They are constructed from a mixture of coursed and random dressed stone, as well as rubble, and are topped with a roof made of Welsh and local slate. The layout consists of two parallel single-storey ranges connected by a two-storey range, forming three sides of a square, with the farmhouse completing the square. The central area features less uniform buildings.
The left range includes stables that end in a coachman's room, which has an early 19th-century fireplace, a 12-pane sash window, and a stone chimney stack. A similar arrangement is found in the byres on the right. The two-storey cross range features four segmental arches that create shelter sheds, with a granary above that has slatted wooden windows. In the middle of the complex, there are walls forming yards, a turnip-chopping shed with a segmental arch, a store with shouldered ashlar door jambs, and another byre with two segmental arches. The buildings contain many good wooden stalls and fodder racks.
The byres on the right rest on a plinth of boulders, appear to have coarser stonework, and may be of earlier construction.
